Terms of Use

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. ("Intuitive") maintains this web site as a service to the Internet community. This Web site has been designed to provide general information about Intuitive and its products. These pages are not intended to provide medical advice, nor do they provide instruction on the appropriate use of products produced or supplied by Intuitive, its affiliates, related companies, or its licensors or joint venture partners.

The interviews and quotations on this web site from patients, surgeons and administrators describe individual experiences with the da Vinci® Surgical System. As you read, please remember that the experience is specific to the individual. While clinical studies support the effectiveness of robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery, results cannot be guaranteed, as surgery is procedure and patient-specific.

Access and use of this Web site is at the user's own risk and is subject to the terms and conditions set forth herein and all applicable laws, statutes, and/or regulations. Intuitive may revise these terms and conditions from time to time by updating this posting.

Please refer to the following areas for specific statements relating to the use of this site.

If you are a physician, contact Intuitive Surgical for further information on product training. Surgeons or others who are considering using robotic-assisted surgery or any other type of surgical procedure shall only do so after successfully completing required medical training and certification as well as the relevant training mandated in the professional guidelines of their own hospital, institution, or society – including training on the use of the da Vinci Surgical System.

Serious complications may occur in any surgery, including da Vinci® Surgery, up to and including death. Examples of serious or life-threatening complications, which may require prolonged and/or unexpected hospitalization and/or reoperation, include but are not limited to, one or more of the following: injury to tissues/organs, bleeding, infection and internal scarring that can cause long-lasting dysfunction/pain. Risks of surgery also include the potential for equipment failure and/or human error. Individual surgical results may vary.

Risks specific to minimally invasive surgery, including da Vinci Surgery, include but are not limited to, one or more of the following: temporary pain/nerve injury associated with positioning; temporary pain/discomfort from the use of air or gas in the procedure; a longer operation and time under anesthesia and conversion to another surgical technique. If your doctor needs to convert the surgery to another surgical technique, this could result in a longer operative time, additional time under anesthesia, additional or larger incisions and/or increased complications.

Patients who are not candidates for non-robotic minimally invasive surgery are also not candidates for da Vinci® Surgery. Patients should talk to their doctor to decide if da Vinci Surgery is right for them. Patients and doctors should review all available information on non-surgical and surgical options in order to make an informed decision.
